Conder Tokens

In 1794 John Conder, a linen draper on Tavern Street in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, issued the fairly common half-penny token.... No great event--everybody else was doing the same thing. What John Conder did though was collect the many tokens issued in England between 1787 and 1897. He wrote all he learned about them in a book published in 1798, An Arrangement of Provincial Coins, Tokens, and Medalets Issued in Great Britain, Ireland, and the Colonies. So well accepted was this book that many British and Americans still refer to the tokens of this time as "Conder" tokens....
